Splendid equestrian statue of Gen'l. Robt. E. Lee, designed by Mercier, is located on Monument Ave. and is a magnificent tribute to the 'idol of the South.' It was unveiled May 30th, 1890 by Gen'l. Joseph E. Johnston, and was the occasion of the greatest reunion of Confederate Veterans ever held.
