Containing the splendid equestrian statue of Gen'l Robt. E. Lee, is located on Monument Ave., in the heart of the handsome residential section of Richmond. The statue was designed by Mercier, and is a magnificent tribute to the 'Idol of the South.' It was unveiled May 30, 1890, by Gen'l Joseph E. Johnston, and was the occasion for the greatest reunion of the Confederate Veterans ever held.
