Boulder Monument erected by the Assn. for the Preservation of Va. Antiquities in commemoration of the first visit of men of the Anglo-Saxon race, to the present site of Richmond. Here it was that Captain John Smith and a party of hardy adventurers, while on an expedition up the river from Jamestown, on June 10th, 1607, erected a cross and claimed the river and adjacent lands in the name of His Majesty James I of England.
