Home of Jefferson Davis, Shaft of S.S. 'Merrimac' in Foreground. Richmond, Va.
Card text
Home of Jefferson Davis. The 'White House of the Confederacy' , so called because it was occupied by Jefferson Davis while he was president of the Confederate states, is an imposing, typical southern residence on East Clay Street. It was tendered by the city to Mr. Davis as a gift, but he consented only to occupy it, leaving the title with the city. It is now fitted up as a memorial building and war museum.
