Hood presented to Dr. William Sanger in concert with the honorary Doctor of Civil Law degree granted him by the Medical College of Virginia in 1957. Hood is sewn from heavy fabric with a thicker base for the velvet trim on the exterior. Velvet trim is deep purple, the traditional color assocated with law degrees. Outside of hood, the part that would be worn to the rear, is dark green with a stripe of white through the middle, the traditional colors of the Medical College of Virginia.
