MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
OF THE BOARD OF VISITORS OF VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY
June 15, 1989
A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Visitors of
Virginia Commonwealth University was held on Thursday, June 15, 1989,
at 10 a.m. in the University Meeting Center.
Present were Messrs. Farinholt (Rector), Beadles and Whitworth; Dr.
Holland; and Mrs. Abady. Absent were Messrs. Gregory, Morris and
Wurtzel; and Mrs. Whittemore. Also present were Drs. Ackell, Andrako,
Newsome, Ruch and Wilson; Messrs. Bruegman, Fischer, Kudless, Poe and
Ross; and Mrs. Price.
Mr. Farinholt called the meeting to order. The proposed "Universi-
ty Policy for Administrative and Professional Faculty and Faculty Holding Administrative Appointments" was presented. Several editorial
changes were noted and incorporated into the document. Dr. Ruch called
the Committee's attention to the section dealing with the ability to
appoint a department chairman to a three-year term. It was noted that
this is a recruitment tool since some department chairmen do not come
to the University with tenure. The document allows the appointment of
such an individual to a three-year term but does not require it. Fol-
lowing a discussion, on motion made and seconded, the Committee
approved the "University Policy for Administrative and Professional
Faculty and Faculty Holding Administrative Appointments" as amended.
On notion made and seconded, the Committee convened into executive
session to discuss certain personnel matters involving the performance
of identifiable employees or faculty of VCU, and to discuss the evaluation of performance of departments or schools of VCU where such matters
regarding such individuals might be affected by such evaluation as
authorized by Section 2.1-344 a(1) of the Virginia Freedom of Informa-
tion Act.
Following executive-session, on motion made and seconded, the Committee approved the New Applicants and Renewal of Hospital Privileges
as amended.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
