A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE BOARD OF
VISITORS OF VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY
August 16, 1977
A special meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Visitors
of Virginia Commonwealth University was held on Tuesday, August 16, 1977,
at 12 noon in the 910 West Franklin Street Conference Room.
Present were Drs. Blanton and Gwathmey; Messrs. Dabney, Grey and
Obenshain. Mr. McGehee, Chairman of the Audit Committee, was also in
attendance. Absent were Messrs. Shumate and Scott. Also present were
Drs. Beller, Brooke, Neal and Willett; Mr. Cribbs; Miss Cosby and
Mesdames Epps and Price.
Dr. Willett briefly outlined the problems surrounding the biennial
budget request. There were several areas concerning VCU which needed
clarification and which were under discussion by officials of State
agencies. Resolution of these concerns was not reached until mid-July.
As a result, VCU has been caused to be late in submitting its budget
request which was due on August 1.
Dr. Beller and Mr. Cribbs presented the budget request and showed the
Committee those areas which are dictated by State formulae and those areas
which are at the discretion of the university. Following considerable
discussion, the Executive Committee agreed that the budget office should
proceed with the budget as presented but should continue to examine the
documents to ensure that no "soft spots" are included.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
