MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD OF VISITORS OF
VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY
May 28, 1975
A special meeting of the Board of Visitors of Virginia Commonwealth
University was held on Wednesday, May 28, 1975, at 8:30 a.m. in the
President's Dining Room.
Present were Messrs. Dabney, McGehee, Norris, Scott, Seaborn,
Shumate and Taylor; Dr. Gwathmey; Mesdames Satterfield and Thalhimer; and
Dr. Willett. Absent were Messrs. Grey, Morgan and Obenshain; Mrs. Stone;
and Dr. Blanton.
Mr. Scott called the meeting to order.
Mr. Scott indicated to the Board that the purpose of the meeting was
to receive a report of the Search Committee (Executive Committee) regarding
the selection of a new president for Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr.
Scott stated that the names of three candidates had been passed on to the
Search Committee by the Presidential Search Assistance Committee. He then
reviewed the credentials and qualifications of each of the three persons.
Following a discussion, Mr. Scott indicated to the Board that the Search Com-
mittee unanimously recommended that Mr. T. Edward Temple be appointed as
the second President of Virginia Commonwealth University.
On motion made, seconded and unanimously approved, Mr. T. Edward
Temple was appointed President of Virginia Commonwealth University effective
June 1, 1975.

Mr. Scott indicated that those members of the Board not present had
been contacted and were in accord with the recommendation of the Search
Committee.
Mr. Temple was invited to join the meeting at this time. He expressed
to the Board his gratitude and appreciation.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
