MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE
BOARD OF VISITORS OF VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY
December 8, 1972
A special meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Visitors
of Virginia Commonwealth University was held on Friday, December 8, 1972,
at 1:00 p.m. in the President's Dining Room.
Present were Drs. Blanton and Gwathmey and Messrs. Dabney, Scott
and Turnbull. Mr. Obenshain and Mr. Sheffield were absent. Also present
were Drs. Brandt and Willett and Miss Cosby. Present by invitation were
the following members of the MCV Alumni Association: Dr. Custis Coleman,
Dr. Philip Minor, Mr. Reginald Rooke, Dr. Earl Strickland and Mrs. Carol
Cantrell.
Dr. Blanton stated that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss
ways in which the MCV Alumni Association could help VCU sell the proposed
hospital construction and renovation plans to the legislature. Dr. Willett
outlined plans that VCU has made in this area.
After considerable discussion, each of the members of the MCV Alumni
Association present at the meeting pledged himself to assist in working with
VCU on the hospital project. Dr. Minor noted that he would call a special
meeting of the Board of the MCV Alumni Association to get their support.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
