MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF
THE BOARD OF VISITORS OF VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH UNIVERSITY
HELD ON JUNE 24, 1968
A special meeting of the Executive Committee of the
Board of Visitors of Virginia Commonwealth University was held on
the 24th day of June, 1968 at 10:00 o'clock in the forenoon in
the President's dining room of the Richmond Professional Institute
pursuant to due notice.
Present were all of the members of the Committee except
Messrs. Wayne and Brent.
Due to the illness of Mr Wayne, Chairman, and the
absence of Mr. Brent, Temporary Chairman, Mr. Dabney served as
Chairman of the meeting and also recorded the minutes.
The Chairman then stated that the purpose for which
the meeting had been called was to consider the appointment of Mr.
Fred O. Wygal on a temporary basis as Executive Administrative
Assistant to the Board of Visitors. He explained that Mr Wayne
had made this suggestion some time back and that he (Mr. Dabney)
had conferred with Mr. Wygal and understood that he was willing to
consider the proposed appointment to serve until a President could
be selected and take office. In conclusion the Chairman stated
that he had asked Mr. Wygal to be present so that the members of
the Committee might meet him and discuss the matter further.
Thereupon, Mr. Wygal was invited to join the meeting
and to give his views on what he thought his function might be
if he were chosen to serve in the indicated capacity on a temporar
basis. Mr Wygal then gave a general statement of what he would
try to do in maintaining and bringing together the two component
institutions which on July 1 will form the University. After a
general discussion he was thanked and invited to remain for the
Board meeting.
There being no further business to come before the
meeting, the same on motion duly made, seconded and unanimously
carried, adjourned.
