L[evin S[mith] Joynes M.D.
Sir
I am hare as
Hosp[ita]l Steward. I am exceedingly
anxious to attend Lectures at the Med[ical]-
College this winter, but will be unable
to pay for the tickets in advance, but
can pay you during next summer.
I have a mother and sister to support
which will take all the money I will
get during the winter. This is the only
opportunity I will have to study
medecine. If you want security for
the payment of the money I can give
it to you next month; or as soon as my
Representative (Waller R. Staples) comes to
Richmond. If you want to know my
character I can give you any testimonials
that you may desire. I hope you will
give my case a favorable consideration
for the sake of my feelings you will
