Dr. L[evin] S[mith] Joynes
Dear Sir
Inclosed
I send you an application to attened
lectures in the medical college at Rich-
mond this winter. You will confer a
great favour by presenting the applica-
tion to the Surgeon Gen[era]l and suppose
he will make the neccessary arrangements
for me to accomplish the end desired.
I have attended one course and am excee-
dingly desirous to graduate. I am not
able for any heavy duty now in consequence
of a would recieved about three months
back. I am now hospital Steward for our
command, and have just learned that
all hospital Stewards will be allowed to
attend lectures this winter if they have
attended a course previous to this time.
Please attend to the matter and greatly
oblidge.
Your most recprectfully
E[lliott] V[inson] Steadman
